Description
A decadent Apple Bacon Mac & Cheese Bread Bowl made with creamy cheddar mac, smoky bacon, and sweet apples baked inside a crusty bread bowl. The ultimate comfort food upgrade.
Ingredients
4 small round bread loaves (or 1 large boule)
2 cups elbow macaroni
6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 large apple, peeled and diced
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 cups milk
3 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
Chopped parsley or chives for garnish
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
3. Cook bacon until crispy, crumble, and set aside. Reserve 1 tbsp grease.
4. In a saucepan, melt butter with bacon grease. Stir in flour and cook 1 min.
5. Whisk in milk and cook until thickened, 5 minutes.
6. Stir in cheddar, Dijon, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
7. Add pasta, diced apple, and bacon. Mix well.
8. Hollow out bread loaves and place on baking sheet.
9. Spoon mixture into bowls. Top with cheese if desired.
10. Bake 10–15 min until bubbly and golden.
11. Garnish with parsley or chives. Serve hot.
Notes
For best results, use tart apples like Granny Smith.
Sourdough bread bowls hold up best for baking.
Prepare filling ahead and assemble before baking for easy entertaining.
