Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Whisk together to ensure even distribution.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm water and olive oil. Test the temperature to ensure it is comfortably warm.
- Pour the warm water mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough in the bowl for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic, adding more flour if necessary.
- Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough gently to release air.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide and 6-8 inches long. Twist each strip if desired.
- Place the strips on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a small bowl, combine the mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Mix well.
- Sprinkle the cheese mixture generously over the breadsticks.
- Brush the tops of the breadsticks with melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
- Serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
- Enjoy every cheesy, garlicky bite! Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
Notes
- For added flavor, mix in Italian seasoning or fresh herbs into the dough.
- Experiment with different cheeses like cheddar or pepper jack for a spicy twist.
- Cover baked breadsticks with a kitchen towel to keep them soft.
- Try adding sesame or poppy seeds on top before baking for extra texture.
