Description
Country Fried Pork Chops are crispy, golden pork chops smothered in creamy bacon gravy. This Southern classic is the perfect comfort food, ready in just 40 minutes!
Ingredients
For the Pork Chops:
– 4 boneless pork chops (1 inch thick)
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 1 tsp garlic powder
– 1 tsp smoked paprika
– ½ tsp salt
– ½ tsp black pepper
– ½ cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
– 2 tbsp vegetable oil
– 2 tbsp butter
For the Gravy:
– 4 slices bacon, chopped
– 2 tbsp reserved flour (from dredging)
– 1 ½ cups whole milk
– ½ cup chicken broth
– Salt and black pepper to taste
– Optional: Chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
1. In a shallow bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Reserve 2 tbsp of this seasoned flour for the gravy.
2. Dip each pork chop into buttermilk, then dredge in the flour mixture, coating well.
3. In a large skillet, cook chopped bacon until crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the grease in the pan.
4. Add vegetable oil and butter to the skillet. Fry pork chops over medium heat for 4–5 minutes per side, until golden and cooked through. Remove from skillet and keep warm.
5. For the gravy, add reserved flour to the skillet and whisk for 1 minute.
6. Slowly pour in milk and chicken broth, whisking constantly until smooth and thickened, about 3–5 minutes.
7. Stir in the cooked bacon and season gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
8. Spoon the gravy over the pork chops and garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
– Use bone-in pork chops for extra flavor if preferred.
– Substitute sausage for bacon in the gravy if desired.
– For spicier gravy, add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
– Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for 2 months.
