Description
Flaky puff pastry rounds filled with espresso-infused cream cheese and topped with spiced apples, then baked until golden and drizzled with glaze.
Ingredients
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 large apple, thinly sliced
4 oz cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon brewed espresso or strong coffee
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Optional: powdered sugar and milk for glaze
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Unfold the thawed puff pastry and cut into 4 equal squares. Fold corners inward or cut into circles for round danishes.
In a small bowl, mix cream cheese, granulated sugar, espresso, and vanilla until smooth.
Spread a spoonful of cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
Toss apple slices with lemon juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Layer them over the cream cheese filling.
Brush pastry edges with beaten egg.
Bake for 18 to 22 minutes or until golden and puffed.
Optional: Mix powdered sugar with milk or espresso to create a glaze and drizzle over cooled danishes.
Notes
Use Honeycrisp or Fuji apples for the best texture and flavor.
Keep puff pastry cold until ready to bake for the flakiest results.
