Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried sage
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk or whole milk with 1 teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice
1 large egg
2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
Optional Topping:
2 tablespoons melted butter mixed with 1 teaspoon garlic powder and extra parsley
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, sage, thyme, rosemary, and black pepper.
Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a small bowl whisk the buttermilk and egg together. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
Fold in the chopped parsley.
Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until biscuits are puffed and golden brown.
Brush the tops with the garlic butter mixture while warm for extra flavor.
Serve immediately.
Notes
Keep butter very cold for the flakiest biscuits.
Do not overmix the dough or biscuits will be dense.
Triple the amount of fresh herbs if substituting for dried.
Biscuits can be frozen for up to 2 months and reheated in the oven.
