  • Author: Melissa
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Savor the rich flavors of Garlic Parmesan Mushrooms, a quick and delicious side dish or appetizer. Fresh mushrooms are sautéed in a buttery garlic sauce and finished with a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, creating a mouthwatering treat that’s perfect for any occasion. Enjoy warm, ideally with crusty bread to soak up the flavorful sauce!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of fresh mushrooms (button or cremini)
  • 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme (or 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme, chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms using a damp paper towel to wipe off any dirt. Avoid rinsing them under water to prevent sogginess. If needed, rinse quickly and dry thoroughly.
  2. Remove tough stems from the mushrooms. Leave button mushrooms whole, and slice larger cremini mushrooms in half or quarters for even cooking.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat until it starts to bubble.
  4. Add the minced garlic and stir constantly for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  5. Sprinkle in the dried thyme, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir and cook for another minute to release the herb flavors.
  6. Add the cleaned mushrooms to the skillet, tossing gently to coat them in the garlic butter. Spread them out evenly in the pan.
  7. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are tender and golden brown. Avoid overcooking to prevent mushiness.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the mushrooms and stir gently to combine. The cheese will melt and create a creamy coating.
  10. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cheese is fully melted and flavors meld together.
  11. Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top for color and freshness.
  12. Serve warm as a side dish or appetizer, ideally with crusty bread to soak up the garlic butter sauce.
  13. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of water or broth.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your heat preference.
  • For an extra cheesy flavor, add more Parmesan cheese during the cooking process.
