  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 apples 1x

Description

Glossy red candy apples with edible googly eyes and sparkling sugar make these Monster Eyes Candy Apples the perfect spooky sweet treat for Halloween parties and kids’ activities.

Ingredients

Scale

6 apples (Gala, Fuji, or Granny Smith)

2 cups granulated sugar

3/4 cup water

1/2 cup light corn syrup

1/2 teaspoon red gel food coloring

Candy eyes (1 to 4 per apple)

Red sanding sugar or edible glitter

6 wooden sticks or skewers

Instructions

Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Remove stems and insert wooden sticks into each.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Stir until dissolved.

Bring to a boil and cook without stirring until the temperature reaches 300°F.

Remove from heat and stir in red gel food coloring.

Tilt the saucepan and dip each apple into the candy mixture, coating completely.

Let excess drip off and place apple on lined tray.

While still tacky, press on candy eyes and sprinkle with sanding sugar.

Allow to cool and harden at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes.

Notes

Do not refrigerate candy apples.

Use room temperature apples for best coating adhesion.

Decorate quickly before the candy hardens.

Store wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Add edible marker features like mouths or scars for fun monster faces.
