Ingredients
1½ pounds ground beef (85/15)
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
For the gravy:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large onion, sliced
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, Worcestershire, mustard, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix and form into 4–6 oval patties.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
Add olive oil to the pan. Sauté onions for 3 minutes, then add mushrooms. Cook until soft and browned.
Sprinkle flour over vegetables and cook for 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire, mustard, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer until thickened.
Return patties to the pan. Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes until cooked through.
Serve hot, garnished with parsley.
Notes
Use lean beef for a lighter version.
Add a splash of red wine or balsamic vinegar to deepen gravy flavor.
Pairs perfectly with mashed potatoes or buttered green beans.
