Description
A creamy Southern dessert with layers of sweet bananas, custard filling, and a buttery crumb topping. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
Ingredients
For the Filling:
– 5 ripe bananas, sliced
– 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
– 1 cup whole milk
– 1 cup heavy cream
– 3 large egg yolks
– 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
– ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
For the Topping:
– 1 cup crushed vanilla wafers or graham crackers
– ½ cup all-purpose flour
– ½ cup brown sugar
– ½ cup butter, melted
For Serving:
– Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
– Extra sliced bananas for garnish
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a bowl, whisk condensed milk, whole milk, heavy cream, egg yolks, vanilla, and cinnamon.
3. Place sliced bananas in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
4. Pour the custard mixture over the bananas.
5. In a separate bowl, mix crushed wafers, flour, brown sugar, and melted butter until crumbly.
6. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the banana layer.
7. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and set.
8. Let cool for 10-15 minutes. Serve with whipped cream and extra bananas.
Notes
– Use ripe but firm bananas for best texture.
– Add chopped nuts to the topping for crunch.
– Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
