- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup Cheez Whiz or your favorite cheese sauce
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and ground pork.
- Add the breadcrumbs to the meat mixture.
- Pour in the milk and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese.
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion and green bell pepper until soft, about 5-7 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Let the sautéed vegetables cool slightly before adding them to the meat mixture.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, oregano, thyme, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) to the bowl. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in the shredded provolone cheese.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a loaf pan.
- Transfer the meat mixture onto the prepared baking sheet or into the loaf pan, shaping it into a loaf about 2 inches high with a slight indentation in the center.
- Bake for about 45 minutes.
- Remove the meatloaf from the oven and spread Cheez Whiz or cheese sauce over the top.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve warm, garnished with freshly chopped parsley.
