Description
A cheesy, beefy twist on classic meatloaf inspired by the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak. Packed with provolone, peppers, and onions for the ultimate comfort meal!
Ingredients
For the Meatloaf:
– 2 pounds ground beef
– 1 cup breadcrumbs
– 1 egg
– ½ cup milk
– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon salt
– ½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Cheesesteak Filling:
– 1 green bell pepper, diced
– 1 small onion, diced
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 8 slices provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)
Optional Garnish:
– Fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté peppers and onions for 5 minutes until softened. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
4. Press half the meat mixture into the bottom of a loaf pan.
5. Layer 4 slices of provolone over the meat, then add the sautéed peppers and onions.
6. Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing to seal the edges.
7. Bake for 45-50 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, lay the remaining 4 slices of provolone on top and bake until melted.
8. Rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
– Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
– Swap provolone for mozzarella or Swiss.
– For gluten-free, use almond flour or GF breadcrumbs.
– Make ahead and refrigerate before baking.
