Description

A cheesy, beefy twist on classic meatloaf inspired by the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak. Packed with provolone, peppers, and onions for the ultimate comfort meal!

Ingredients

For the Meatloaf:

– 2 pounds ground beef

– 1 cup breadcrumbs

– 1 egg

– ½ cup milk

– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

– 1 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1 teaspoon salt

– ½ teaspoon black pepper

For the Cheesesteak Filling:

– 1 green bell pepper, diced

– 1 small onion, diced

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– 8 slices provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)

Optional Garnish:

– Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté peppers and onions for 5 minutes until softened. Set aside.

3. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

4. Press half the meat mixture into the bottom of a loaf pan.

5. Layer 4 slices of provolone over the meat, then add the sautéed peppers and onions.

6. Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing to seal the edges.

7. Bake for 45-50 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, lay the remaining 4 slices of provolone on top and bake until melted.

8. Rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

– Use ground turkey for a lighter version.

– Swap provolone for mozzarella or Swiss.

– For gluten-free, use almond flour or GF breadcrumbs.

– Make ahead and refrigerate before baking.
